If you are a newcomer to Suzuki music training in Austin, TX, our FirstNotes music class is for you! This is a 12-week introductory music program for both children and parents alike. The first 2-3 weeks of the music program will consist of parent education meetings. Our Suzuki music programs require committed parental involvement from day one as the student's parent(s) acts as the home teacher(s) for the child, upholding the importance of maintaining a daily practice at home in between weekly lessons with Monarch Suzuki Academy.

During the FirstNotes music program, students will receive a handmade practice violin to learn how to hold and play the instrument, and will use a foot chart to learn how to stand while playing. Toward the end of the 12-week class, music students will receive their own real violin and will have learned the basics of playing the instrument. If the child and family wish to continue their music education with Monarch Suzuki Academy, they will move into our Instrumental Suzuki Music Program.
Parental Involvement
Parent involvement is fundamental in the Suzuki method of learning. Parents must be prepared to learn the fundamentals of the philosophy and of playing and caring for the instrument. They must attend and take notes at each lesson and practice at home with their child. In the beginning, parents are asked to actively participate in group classes (as the teacher requests) and, as the student advances, support them by observing and applauding.

During our FirstNotes Suzuki music class, you will learn:
  • the Suzuki philosophy
  • fundamentals of and care for your child’s instrument
  • how to be an effective ‘practice partner’ with your child at home
  • the structure and cadence of instrument instruction
  • tips for fostering Suzuki in your household

Upon completion of FirstNotes, if you feel that Suzuki and Monarch are a good fit for your family, your child will be matched with a teacher for individual lessons beginning the following session.

FirstNotes classes start follow a semester schedule and have start dates in early Fall and Spring. Please contact us with questions or for the next available starting date! Your place in class is reserved when we have received both your registration and payment.
